I love a bit of Filmore and Union, it’s a great spot for coffee with the Mamas. It’s also perfect for whenever I’ve skipped breakfast in favour of loading the dishwasher before dashing out of the door for the school run, then their peanut butter and banana bagel always fills me up till school pick up time!
So I was pleased to hear that they’d extended their family offering too by updating their junior menu – which includes healthy choices your Smalls will actually eat!
The new menu features a ‘build your own pizza’ made on a spinach wrap base with a choice of toppings including broccoli, feta, chicken, sausage, and red peppers. Snacks include sweet potato wedges and a fruit plate, and there are lots of yummy sweet options that are handmade with natural ingredients and include no refined sugar including Filmore’s famous chocolate brownie and a chocolate peanut butter and banana pizza!
Plus it’s great for kids with special dietary requirements including gluten free and dairy free dishes, and everything on the menu can be adapted for those with allergies or other requirements.
We went along (with Harrogate Nana!) to check it out! It was so great to have some seriously tasty, fresh, healthy food after all the Christmas indulgence! I chose a Bench Press Goodness Bowl, which was packed with all the colours of the rainbow and included; Quinoa, avocado, maple pecan, sweet potato, feta, hummus, poached egg, mixed seeds and coronation cashew dressing, with a red lentil and feta cake!
It was amazing and just looking at it alone made me feel better! It tasted delicious whilst also making me feel virtuous, a hard combination to achieve!
Harrogate Nana went for the Filmore Classic Bagel Hot Jacks, with Pimento roasted chicken with red peppers and homemade guacamole! Which she thoroughly enjoyed!
The Smalls were happiest of all though, firstly they chose hot chocolate as their drink of choice, not so healthy, but you know, milk!
One of the big girls chose the Build Your Own Pizza on a Spinach wrap base with a choice of toppings and the other two went for a perfectly cooked classic; scrambled eggs!
The menu is just big enough and designed with dishes your children would actually choose on it too! There was quite some wavering over the Mini Pancakes with banana, strawberries and maple syrup and the Sweet Pizza, with chocolate, peanut butter and banana too!
We loved our lunch, all ate it all, and we’ll definitely be back! The service was friendly and helpful, there were highchairs should we have needed them, the all important colouring for the Smalls and a lovely atmosphere!
Have you been with your Smalls? What did you think?
Disclaimer: Filmore and Union invited us to try their new junior menu with their compliments, the views are my own.

About Holly Francesca and the Harrogate Map
Holly shared with me some of the reasons she created the map and how she goes about designing them…
“We first came to Harrogate last year for a trade show at the convention centre and really loved the town and surroundings. With impressive buildings, lots to do and super friendly folk, we had a strong desire to come back. Well we did much quicker than planned, as we have moved to Hebden Bridge from Hastings in August, and so we are able to visit and explore more of Harrogate again 🙂 Which has lead us to creating a Map of Harrogate design here and also exhibit at the Country Living Christmas Fair taking place in Harrogate, 30 November – 3 December.
When designing a map, knowing what to add is the hardest thing. Often there is simply too much in one area, therefore we have to be selective and make sure that we have a good range of places to add. We don’t want to have only pubs or churches, we want to add in places that local people and visitors regularly enjoy or easily recognise.
For us, as lovers of the Great outdoors, there is nothing better than a walk through Valley Gardens that is our favourite place in Harrogate. Many places were a dead certain to be included because they are so iconic in Harrogate, such as the Turkish Baths, Royal Pump Room, Royal Hall and The Majestic Hotel. Then there was food, and nothing we felt was more synonymous with Harrogate than Betty’s.
With Entertainment we included some pubs, the theatre, the cinema and highlighted plenty of shopping locations. We even gave a nod to RHS Harlow Carr, although it is off the map, it’s within touching distance and is so beautiful. Harrogate was a very enjoyable map to draw and with no shortage of different places to add, we think that you could spend a very long time taking all of the design in. We hope you like the outcome and look forward to more Harrogate visits now as Yorkshire residents.”

See you on Friday 24th November, if you’re coming please do make sure you come and say hello, I’d love to say hi!
I had a lovely evening last night when I headed out for a rare night out with my Dad. I’m lucky enough to get to see loads of my Dad as he lives in Harrogate too, he’s a brilliant babysitter for the Smalls and all round ‘International Rescue’ to me and the famalam, but it’s not often just the two of us get to go out together for fun, which made it all the more lovely!
Veeno in Harrogate
We headed to Veeno, the Italian wine café, who serve their family produced Sicilian wines & authentic Italian spuntini (appetisers), which was the perfect setting for us. We were invited to try their wine tasting experience as my Dad also knows a thing or two about wine!
Veeno in Harrogate, opened last year at the site of the new Everyman Cinema and is in the perfect spot. The bar has a lovely chilled vibe about it, with a ‘half wine bar, half nice place to eat’ feel about it. It definitely feels quite grown-up, which is really nice when you want a Mama night out.
Wine Tasting Experience
We were lucky enough to enjoy the Selezione wine tasting experience whereby we were treated to two white wines, a rose and two red wines, all expertly paired with authentic Sicilian food which was polished off with a homemade tiramisu and a dessert wine too! It was amazing!
Veeno is owned by two Italian chaps who set up the business in 2013, they now have a fifteen Veeno’s across the UK and plan to open further ones over the coming months. One of the nicest things about the wine tasting experience was that all the wines we got to enjoy were from the family vineyards in Sicily.
Authentic Italian Food
We were firstly presented with a simply gorgeous array of genuine Italian foods on a sharing platter to enjoy. It looked amazing and it tasted even better than it looked. All the cold meats, cheeses and breads are sourced from Italy too making it a really authentic platter.
The lovely manager then came across to us to share the first wine to taste, she explained all about how it was made, what sort of flavours to expect and which food it paired best with.
Wine and Food Pairing
In the first case it was a white Grillo, ‘Our Driest’ which, as expected, was very dry – just exactly how I like it, it was perfect and it was paired with their special Mozzarella di Bufala – which was melt in the mouth good.
Each wine is served as a 70ml glass, which means you get to really taste it and enjoy it whilst not having to worry too much as to whether you’ll remember which the last wine was you tasted either! A perfect measure in my opinion.
Five Wines and a Dessert Wine
The second white we tasted turned out to be my favourite, the Zibibbo ‘The Wine of Love’ – which was a little random when I was with my Dad! Still we did both Love It – so maybe that was it, we enjoyed that with Pecorino (sheep’s milk) cheese – which is one of my favourite cheeses, I think it’s the saltiness – again they did pair well and I would definitely buy this wine again!
Next it was time for the Rose, I love a Rose and it’s usually my go to girls meet up wine of choice, this ‘House Rose’ it was effortlessly easy drinking and went wonderfully with the olive tapenade on Italian bread that I had, and the Speck (smoked Ham from Trentino) for my non-veggie Dad.
Then it was on to the reds, the ‘Experts Only’ Perricone served with the Bresaola for my Dad and a tomato pate for me, which went down very well indeed. The star of the show for my Dad was the last red we tasted ‘Our Richest’, which is made from a Nero D’Avola Riserva, it was a really deep, rich wine, spicy, silky and persistent. It went beautifully with the Gorgonzola cheese.
Polished Off with Pudding
Finally it was time for dessert, a homemade tiramisu which was exceptionally light and creamy and went perfectly with the ‘Tagos’ the family produced desert wine, which made for the ideal end to a lovely evening.
Lovely Relaxed Atmosphere
The setting at Veeno was so relaxed, it was fairly bustling with couples and a few groups of friends chatting over wine and bites to eat, the atmosphere was lovely and it was so nice for me and my Dad to catch up and enjoy a shared experience together.
The food was top notch too – I felt I learned just a little more about wine and it helped me realise what I really love in a wine and identify it a bit better.
A great place to hang out
Mostly it reminded me that Veeno is a lovely place to hang out, perfect for a post work drink, a pre-cinema quick one or a girls night out as somewhere to chill and chat whilst enjoying a relaxed bite to eat.
I would really recommend the wine tasting experience as something a little different to do as a couple, or with a group of friends.
Three Types of Wine Tasting
Veeno have a Classic wine tasting from £19.90 per person which also includes the Sputtini (sharing platter) and the tiramisu and the Selezione experience is from £26.90 per person.
The blind tasting experience looks like loads of fun too – and would be perfect for a Christmas party night out. You still get all the amazing wines and tasty food, but it’s a bit more interactive and there can be an element of competition too at £28.90 per person – groups of six or more.
You can find out about all Veeno Wine Tasting Experiences on their website. We were at Veeno for just over two and a half hours, drinking, eating, chatting. It was a really lovely night and one I’m sure I’ll do again soon.
Disclaimer: Veeno invited me and my Dad to enjoy the wine tasting experience with their compliments.

Stella and Dot loveliness

I’m planning to hold half-termly movie meet ups on an ongoing basis! I think it’s going to be a brilliant way to catch up with your Mama friends and enjoy some down-time and escapism, in our increasingly busy lives , it’s important to look after our needs too!
The lovely folks at Spruce Moose in Harrogate invited me into their fab treatment rooms lasts week to try out their individual lashes treatment.
The gorgeous space they have at Westgate House, at the site of the Everyman Cinema, opposite Pizza Express, is really quite large, the treatment rooms are over two floors, with lots of space and a feeling of relaxed luxury.
I’ve never tried lash extensions before so was a little unsure what to expect but the lovely Katie set my ease reassuring me that it was a relaxing treatment, and she was totally right.
They simply attached individual false eyelashes to the base of my existing lashes with a dot of glue. The precision in the placing is key and Katie did a marvellous job with mine.
All I had to do was lay still for around 45 minutes with my eyes closed – pretty ideal when you’re a Mama if you ask me!
Katie placed a strip-pad under my eye (I guess so she could see the lashes better) and set about gently applying the lashes.
Once finished I was amazed, she showed me the finished look in the mirror and it was such a transformation, I was really surprised what a difference it had made!
My eyes were lots more defined and it made the shape of them so much nicer too, plus it was really natural, and they didn’t look ‘false’ at all to me. Just longer and lusher than before.
The aftercare treatment is really simple too, just don’t use oil based eye-make-up remover near them and be careful not to rub them, else they will come out. They’re expected to last two weeks, but will start falling out, just as normal eyelashes would over that time.
They’d be perfect for a weekend away or a special occasion, although some people have them all the time, a little like getting their nails done. I’m really tempted as I know I’ll miss mine once they’re gone!
Looks Amazing and Saves Time
Plus they have the advantage of saving you time both morning and night, as there’s no need for mascara (though you can use it if you want – I haven’t) and therefore no need to take off the eye make-up at night either! Double bonus!
I like that they make me feel like I have some make-up on, without having any make-up on and instantly make me look more awake! A real bonus as a sleep deprived Mama!
Overall, I really loved the treatment it was relaxing to have done and the benefits were really impressive.
