Some invitations are lovely. Others are irresistible. A day at Bettys Cookery School firmly falls into the second category. I was beyond honoured to be invited to enjoy the day with one of Harrogate’s (and my own) favourite brands.
Welcome to Bettys Cookery School
We were welcomed with pastries, proper Yorkshire Tea and coffee. Bettys always has that magic touch; it feels calm, polished and completely unpretentious all at once.
Hot Cross Buns
With Easter on the horizon, the lovely Jenny led us into our bake for the day; Hot Cross Buns. Jenny’s guidance was relaxed and supportive — no pressure, she was happy to share her expert knowledge and pass on some top tips! Honestly, I had no idea there was so much to Hot Cross Bun making! I loved it!
Easter Floral Centrepieces
Then, as if baking wasn’t fun enough, we moved on to flowers! Not the norm for a Bettys Cookery School event and laid on especially for this influencer event. Sarah from Leafy Couture showed us how to create a fresh, Easter centrepiece. Soft seasonal blooms with shades of all the pastels, we were soon admiring our handiwork and imagining our Easter tables at home!
Main Meal Making and Hot Cross Bun Glazing
Next up was lunch and under Lisa’s direction, we cooked our own! While most had duck, I opted for the vegetarian dish: a beautifully crafted mushroom lattice with cauliflower purée, served with buttered new potatoes and carrots. It was a perfect lunch. Learning how simple a cauliflower puree is to make I will definitely try that again at home! Sitting down all together with a glass of wine made it feel extra special with a sense of occasion about it all.
We finished by glazing our hot cross buns and boxing them up to take home — a delicious reminder of a truly gorgeous day.
Bettys Cookery School – An Unforgettable Experience
Bettys remains one of those rare brands that feels both iconic and genuinely welcoming. And having now attended three courses, I can confidently say: it only gets better.
