Showcasing the Children’s Menu at The Star Inn the City, York

Over half term we had a lovely afternoon out visiting The Star Inn the City, York. It’s a gorgeous restaurant in an picture perfect setting; just across from Lendal Bridge and Tower and set in the grounds of the Museum Gardens. I’ve often walked by thinking how idyllic it looked and how we really should go!

Museum Gardens, York

They have a beautiful outdoor decked area that over looks the river, which would be perfect for a summer afternoon or evening, for drinks or coffee or dining. The insides are just as pretty and all the light let in through the huge windows brings the outside in and you really feel like you’re right in the Museum Gardens themselves.

At the event we got to meet loads of lovely local bloggers and their Smalls too, as this one was all about showcasing what’s on offer at the restaurant for the kids! They have a lovely grown-ups menu too and families would be really welcomed.

Chef Chats

The chef came out to chat to the Smalls about the restaurant and how they can make anything on the menu child-sized portions too in addition to the kids menu. Then they all had the opportunity to try everything on the kids menu – which tempted the grown-ups hugely too!

Kids Menu Starters

First up were the starer options; Yorkshire Pudding & Gravy, Prawn Cocktail and Chicken Liver Pâté with Warm Toast & Onion Chutney.

My three loved all of them, the Yorkshire Pudding and Gravy was a firm hit with everyone and the Pate a close second!

My two big girls also loved the Prawn Cocktail – which the grown-ups had the chance to enjoy too, and I can say for certain it was delicious!

Kids Menu Mains

Next it was on to the main course choices; Chilled Yorkshire Ham with a Fried Free Range Egg & Skinny Fries, Tomato Spaghetti with Wensleydale & Garlic Fried Bread Sprinkles and a Little Flat Iron Steak with Garlic Flat Mushroom, Tomato & Skinny Fries.

Again my three weren’t shy in getting tucked in and enjoyed all the dishes they tried. The steak was popular with the Big Girls and the Ham and fries with the Small Boy.

Treats for Grown-Ups

The grown-ups were treated to a few drinks and canapes too – which all made for quite a civilised setting as the Smalls happily munched on and we had chance to chat all things blogging.

Pudding for the Smalls

Finally it was time for the Smalls favourite part of any meal, pudding! The choices included; Bramble Mousse with Honey Granola, Lemonade Float with Vanilla Ice Cream  and a Warm Dark Chocolate Brownie.

Despite the Bramble Mousse looking incredible, I think it was a little to healthy for my Smalls’ tastes! Ha!

So they really enjoyed the Lemonade Float and Chocolate Brownie instead – which were all gone in no time!

Prices were all very reasonable too – averaging around £5 – £6 a dish. We were made to feel really welcomed and the staff were all super friendly and the Smalls all very well behaved.

Family Dining in York

We’re looking forward to going back and dining as a family as there were plenty of things on the menu I’d love to try too! And they’re open for breakfast too with a separate breakfast menu that looks top notch as well – you know how I love a good breakfast!

Getting to the Star Inn the City, York

We drove to The Star Inn the City, York – though you could easily go by train as it’s very handy for the train station. We parked at Marygate which is a two minute walk away along the river or through the Museum Gardens, it makes for a lovely day out. As a little thank you I was sent home with a cute little goody bag filled with Mama treats including York Gin (in a gorgeous little square design bottle – which makes it feel like a luxury perfume) and some York Cocoa House chocolate goodies! All deliciously devoured!
