Oscar 2025 season is officially here, and if you’re anything like me, cosying up on the sofa with a great movie is a ideal way to spend a February evening!
I’ve done the hard work for you and pulled together a list of some of my ‘ones to watch’, and where you can see them!
Available on Streaming right now…
If modern fairy tales are your thing, Anora (93%) is a Cinderella story reimagined for today. A bit of sparkle, a bit of sass, and just the right amount of romance—what’s not to love? Out on some streaming services, including Apple TV.
Then there’s I’m Still Here (95%), a powerful political drama about Eunice Paiva’s fight for justice during Brazil’s military dictatorship. You can catch this on Apple TV.
The Order (92%), is a political thriller about an FBI agent’s mission to dismantle a white supremacist terrorist group in the 1980s – serious food for thought, this ones. This is out to watch for FREE on Amazon Prime Video.
Courtroom drama? Tick. Juror No. 2 (92%) will scratch that itch with plenty of tension and twists. Available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.
And finally, Emilia Perez (76%)—a musical about a cartel! A bit bonkers, but you’ve got to love a bold swing like that. You can catch this on Netflix right now too!
Watch at the Cinema…
First on the list is The Brutalist (93%). This one’s a bit of a long one, but oh my goodness, it’s meant to be breathtaking! A post-war drama with all the feels—perfect for a Sunday evening when you fancy something serious and stunning.
For something more intense, there’s September 5 (92%), a film about the infamous hostage crisis at the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics. I’ve heard it’s absolutely gripping—one of those where you’re on the edge of your seat the whole way through. Can’t wait to watch this! (Nominated for best original screenplay).
If you’re after something lighter, A Real Pain (96%) sounds like an absolute winner. A heartwarming road trip movie with a mix of laughs and tender moments—definitely one to brighten up a dreary winter evening!
Conclave (93%) is all about papal politics—yes, really! Apparently, it’s a total page-turner of a movie, filled with twists and intrigue. Think The Crown, but Vatican-style.
For the music lovers, A Complete Unknown (80%) explores Bob Dylan’s mysterious life. It’s maybe one for the superfans, but I reckon it’ll have its moments. Still showing at a cinema near you, now!
