The live superhero shows will take place at 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm on the Events Field during the weekend of June 3 and 4. To claim half-price entry on advance tickets, use the code SUPER15 when booking online.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea at the Harrogate Theatre

The doorbell rings just as Sophie and her mummy are sitting down to tea. Who could it possibly be? What they certainly don’t expect to see at the door is a big, stripy tiger!

tiger-brochure-examples-2.png

Following a smash-hit West End season, the tea-guzzling tiger is back on the road in this delightful family show; packed with oodles of magic, sing-a-long songs and clumsy chaos! A stunning stage adaptation of the classic tale of teatime mayhem… expect to be surprised!

For children age three and above. Tickets at £12.50. Tuesday 30th May 1.30pm and 4.30pm and Wednesday 31st May 11.00am and 2.00pm the running time is 55 minutes. Tickets are available from the Harrogate theatre box office online.

Harrogate’s Newest Bar – The Foundry Project

The Foundry Project, Harrogate

The Foundry Project has opened in Harrogate and it’s got a lot on offer. From its all day coffee bar culture with endless free WiFi, to late night DJs and its bottomless Prosecco,  lazy, Sunday brunches! Here’s what you need to know…

Harrogate Blogger, Harrogate Mama, Harrogate Mama Blog, Harrogate Blog, Foundry Project, Bar Review, Blogger, Harrogate, Mama, Blog,IMG_8645.jpg
Foundry Project, Harrogate

The Foundry Project is an urbanites bar tucked down The Ginnel in Harrogate conveniently located in a lively spot, just up from Montey’s, across from Luxe and The Pit and down the road from Revolucion de Cuba and All Bar One. So all in all it’s pretty nicely placed for a bit of bar hopping.

Harrogate Blogger, Harrogate Mama, Harrogate Mama Blog, Harrogate Blog, Foundry Project, Bar Review, Blogger, Harrogate, Mama, Blog,IMG_8552.jpg
The Foundry Project Harrogate

Not only is it a hive of activity on an evening but it’s also open all day. So whether it’s breakfast or brunch, coffee and croissants or sharing plates and pizzas it’s available! It’s great for an informal bite to eat on an evening with friends and most excitingly of all for bottomless Prosecco for Sunday brunch! Their cocktail menu is pretty amazing too.

Out with the Grown Ups!

A Bite to Eat with the Mamas

I popped down a few times during their pre-opening week to try all they had on offer first hand! The Mamas and I had a bite to eat one early evening, the sharing plate of Nachos, chicken wings, dough balls and fried pickles made a perfect starter.

Harrogate Blogger, Harrogate Mama, Harrogate Mama Blog, Harrogate Blog, Foundry Project, Bar Review, Blogger, Harrogate, Mama, Blog,IMG_8553.jpg
Sharing Platters and Cocktails!

That was followed by  choices of sourdough pizzas which are all made by hand to order and I enjoyed the Halloumi salad, which was really very tasty. Prices range from between £8 – £12 for main course, and from £4 up for sharing bites.

Grilled Halloumi Salad

The portion sizes were really generous, but we managed to squeeze in a little taste of their chocolate brownie for afters along with the most delicious spiced orange cake squares, which I would highly recommend.

Sunday Brunch with the Famalam

The other Sunday I took Mr P, the Smalls and the extended Harrogate Mama family down to try their bottomless Prosecco brunch! Something I’ll definitely be heading back for! It has a chilled vibe, a DJ was spinning some classic beats and their kids menu is great too. Three courses for £7.95 (but mine opted for the breakfast items this time).

A Granola Brunch starter

The food was spot on. I LOVED the oat, raisin and honey granola with whipped yoghurt and berries, £4 and followed it up with the Avo on sourdough toast with poached eggs which was served with mushrooms and roasted vine tomatoes, £7!

By this time having had almost five of my five day I decided that the bottomless Prosecco was the perfect counter balance, everything in moderation and all that! 😜

The Smalls Love a Pain au Chocolat

The Smalls enjoyed their pancakes and pain au chocolat and Mr P opted for the full English breakfast, £9, which he said was delicious too!

The Pancakes were a bit hit!

I’ll definitely be taking the family back for Sunday brunch, the food was really good and all quite reasonably priced too!

Sunday Vibes with bottomless Prosecco brunch!

Out, Out with the Grown Ups

Lastly we had an amazing time at the opening night for the bar! I was officially out with the grown ups and there were plentiful cocktails to be enjoyed. I can highly recommenced the Bitter and Lifted, £8.25, if you’re a gin fan, it’s mixed with a grapefruit liquor – it’s spot on!

IMG_8797.jpg
Bitter and Lifted Gin Cocktails!

We also sampled the Beetroot and the Carrot and Mango Margaritas, £8.25, which I will certainly be having again! On Sunday’s to Thursday’s between 5pm and 9pm a selection of cocktails are available for £5.

Harrogate Blogger, Harrogate Mama, Harrogate Mama Blog, Harrogate Blog, Foundry Project, Bar Review, Blogger, Harrogate, Mama, Blog,IMG_8543.jpg
Carrot and Mango Margarita

The bar is decked out with an of-the-time industrial feel, there are benches and booths, some high-stooled tables and comfier sofa and single chair areas dotted around. The space is really cleverly carved up making it feel more intimate in areas. There’s not much natural light, apart from the entrance, so on a night out you quickly feel like you’re out, out and the DJ playing really added to the atmosphere.

IMG_8817.jpg
One of the two bars

I can imagine it’s set to be a lively bar on a night – a place to mingle and chat and later on enjoy some cracking tunes. During the day the free well connected WiFi is going to be great for the freelancers who love their coffee bar culture too. The outside space at the front is a great bonus as well – with fired heaters to ward off the chilly nights and a handful of tables for those al fresco opportunities.

Spring Wins and a Giveaway!

So Spring has sprung and apart from that weekend a few weeks ago, when I ceremoniously removed all trace of the winter wear from the house, it’s been pretty darn chilly ever since!

Things have been feeling remarkably un-spring like, so here’s what we’ve been doing round ours to cheer ourselves up, they mainly involve eating and drinking! 😆

1.) Gin and Prosecco!

This fab print is now adorning my kitchen window sill, it mainly makes me want to drink more gin and prosecco, but to be honest there’s not much change there! Mr P enquired as to where the laughter element came in as he’d witnessed much of the latter, but not the former taking place in the kitchen! I’m pretty sure he was just joking! 😬

IMG_7971.jpg
Making me smile this (lack of Spring)

Anyway – in good news for you if you’d like to get your hands on one of these fab prints for yourself from the good folks at DoYouPunctuate –  watch out for a give-away on my Facebook page coming very soon! In the meantime you can check out their website for more of their brilliant range, be warned, some of it is not for the feint hearted. #alltheswears!

2. Yorkshire Warrior

Mr P has been trying to convince me to take part in the Yorkshire Warrior event taking place in Ripley on Sunday 30th April! Having learned that it involves mud, slimy water, slippery slides, barbed wire, electric fencing, log carrying, sand bag carrying and much, much more. I gracefully declined…

IMG_7991.jpg
Training gear from Jacamo, cheering Mr P up (and making him Yorkshire Warrior ready!)
IMG_7983.jpg
Wondering if he’s going to let me borrow these fab trainers from Jacamo!

He has however been out training (a lot 😬) in this under armour Adidas t-shirt from Jacamo.co.uk which has been keeping him the right temperature on runs – looks pretty nice too! And he’s been busy keeping these Nike trainers (also from Jacamo.co.uk) in pristine shape ready to switch into post event for the celebrations! To be honest, I quite fancy a pair of these for myself!

3. COOK Harrogate

With the weather still on the chilly side stocking up on the salads and fruits have been a bit slow on the uptake so far round ours. So instead we went to visit the good people down at COOK in Harrogate where we stocked up with their amazing chicken, ham and leek pie, potato dauphinois, roast potatoes and a simply delicious individual lemon tarts for the perfect Easter Monday treat! The staff are so super friendly in there and it’s such a great place to pick up a family supper or for when you’re catering for visiting friends or family!

IMG_8010.jpg

IMG_8441.jpg
COOK chicken, ham and leek pie, potato dauphinois and roast potatoes!

I’ve always loved COOK, I think they have a great community feel about them (for a national business) and their ingredients are always so straightforward and natural. I often buy a couple of COOK meals when I go new baby visiting, as nothing beats a wholesome meal you can cook from frozen when you’re a new Mama. I was really excited to hear that new parents get 10% at cook for the first six months – a great offer I didn’t know about. I’m excited to hear their promotion next month is around veggie meals too!

Cook’s Offer for New Parents 🙌

So what have you been up to round yours while you wait for Spring to actually arrive?!

What’s On for How Much this Easter around Harrogate for Kids

Happy end of term Folks! There are two weeks of Easter Holidays ahead, here are some ideas for things to do, along with a price guide, if you’re looking for ways to fill them!

Lightwater Valley

Lightwater Valley is opening up with four new attractions for younger children this Easter.

unnamed-4.jpg

New attraction Jumpin’ Jacks! is a huge bouncy pillow for all the family to enjoy as they clamber, leap and bounce upon this giant inflatable, measuring 46ft long by 33ft wide.

Flying Nellies is an exciting new ride for younger visitors taking them into the air on a magical elephant, while the Mini Sand-Diggers offer kids all the fun of playing with sand without getting their hands dirty. Finally Lightwater Valley has a brand new interactive adventure playground too.

unnamed-3.jpg

You can read more about taking younger children to Lightwater Valley on my blog post Lightwater Valley Theme Park, with Younger Children – A Review It is a great day of fun for the Small People, but it’s not cheap at £87.50 for my family of five! 😨

RHS Gardens Harlow Carr

Keep the kids happy with the Lindt Gold Bunny Easter Hunt! The garden trail is running all over the two week holiday and every entry completed will received a FREE mini gold Lindt bunny!

Easter-online-banner.jpg

There’ll also be a chance to meet the Easter bunny over Easter weekend from 14-17th  along with some Easter baby bunnies and lambs, plus get involved with Easter crafts!

On the Tuesdays the Garden Detectives will be holding story time, Wednesdays there’ll be craft workshops and Thursdays there are birds of prey flying displays.

So loads to enjoy, for our family of five it’d be £29.95 or £64.50 for an annual pass.

Open Gym Harrogate Gymnastics Club

Mother Shipton’s

During the Easter Holidays you can meet Dorothy and her friends at Mother Shipton’s.

Easter-Event-Image-423x600.jpg

Hesketh Farm Park

Hesketh Farm Park is always a winner with mine, as the fresh air and freedom to run around it affords them is perfect! It’s always a great day out as  you can tie it in with a trip to Billy Bobs Ice Cream Parlour too!

spring-lambs-1.png

Hesketh Farm Park have their Spring Lambs to see and enjoy feeding and also an Easter Trail on around the farm. Along with the usual fun of the tractor ride, the indoor and outdoor activities with the play equipment and a chance to see all the animals of course!

This costs our family of five £29 for the day.

Thornton Hall Country Park

Thornton Hall Country Park is a new one on us, is the other side of Skipton from Harrogate and would probably take around an hour of travelling in the car to reach. They look to have lots of fab Easter events on though including, a Trolls, Wizard of Oz and Peter Rabbit experience days!

63503204d18160dd6a733e989b70c404_XL.jpg

Regular price entry to enjoy the farm animals and play equipment works out at £31.50 for our family of five. There are additional costs for the ‘event days’.

Bolton Abbey

Bolton Abbey have a great event on over Easter; they’re holding an Easter trail through the woods, which is totally free to enter! And the Easter bunny will also be making an appearance over Easter weekend from 14th to 17th April. For more details check out their website.

Easter-Sidebar2.jpg

There is a £10 charge to park at Bolton Abbey.

Newby Hall and Gardens

Mine LOVE to go to Newby Hall – the combination of the water feature, boat swings, pedalos, miniature train and adventure playground always make for happy children! We’ll probably get a season pass again this year as it’s such good value and means we can go more often for shorter times right through the summer holidays too.

Easter-Bunny-sml-1023x712.jpg

On Easter Saturday and Sunday there are lots of activities for the whole family, courtesy of the wonderful characters from Make a Wish Events. Meet the Easter Bunny and his friends as you solve clues through the woodland walk…there may even be chocolate at the end of it! Activities are included for free with a gardens only ticket. A day pass is £44 for our family of five and a season pass is £105 (meaning you only have to go three times to make it worth your while).

FREE things to do!

Harrogate’s New All Bar One – A Review

Finally Harrogate has seen the opening of All Bar One, it seems everywhere else got them about twenty years ago, and now at last Harrogate has caught up! 😂 And as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait and the good news is that it’s been worth the wait!

I was lucky enough to head to the opening of the new bar for cocktails and then popped back more recently for a bite to eat with the famalam to check out their lunchtime offerings!

En Pointe Interiors

The bar is very sleek and polished and shiny and new! It’s as you’d expect, very en pointe with it’s styling, mosaic tiled surfaced table tops, padded cushioned booth style seating areas and a fancy outdoor terrace area, which is a real sun trap!

It’s a perfect bar for cocktails with the Mamas, which is exactly how I enjoyed it on their opening night!

Gin and Tonic anyone? Opening Night!

The cocktail menu is fab, we loved the classic porn star martinis and their new take on a G&T with a coconut water, a delight to be enjoyed again soon I feel! Harrogate’s All Bar One is certainly in with the in-crowd at the moment and so nice to have a proper ‘bar’ in town to go to and enjoy drinks in a fancy setting!

Cocktail central

The dining menu is extensive too and I LOVED the look of their breakfast and brunch menu, which is handily available until noon, and 1pm on a weekend. The Heuvos  Rancheros and the Smashed Avocado with crumbled Feta sounded perfect. On a weekday you can choose any breakfast and a hot drink for just £6.50 so I’ll be heading back soon to enjoy that! They open at 8am on weekdays, so it’ll make a nice Mamas morning meet-up too!

Lots of seating and highchairs, family friendly for lunchtimes!

For lunch I wasn’t sure how well the Smalls would be received, given it’s obviously a bar! But they were more than welcomed with kids colouring and crayons and a perfect children’s menu too! They say that they welcome children until 7pm – which seems perfectly reasonable to me, when I’m out with the grown ups I don’t want to be out with the Small People too! 😆

Mr P and I went for burgers, mine was a veggie patty of sun-dried tomato, beetroot and mozzarella and Mr P a classic grilled chicken breast with bacon. The burgers are all served with additional extra’s how you’d like, and mine came with avocado, which was heavenly!

Dining was busy at it was a Saturday lunchtime but they coped well given they’d not long been opened. It was a lovely warm sunny day so the outdoor courtyard area was pretty full and it looked amazing! Just the spot to sink a few cocktails with the grown-ups on a summer’s evening! Can’t wait!

Tailored Wellbeing Packages

The organisation offer a range of classes and packages to suit different healthcare needs, from new Mums to Personal Training packages, reproductive wellness to Junior Sports Team physio-led exercise classes. From Pilates, to HIIT classes to Clinical Yoga; to nutrition advice to acupuncture, there are experts at the centre for all your wellbeing needs! You can of course book to see one of the physios for initial consultations and follow up physio treatment too. Their website shares all the details. I took part in some physic-led Pilates and loved it!

Physio Led Pilates

I went along to a couple of their OneWellness Pilates classes to find out what makes them different from the average gym class.

For a start all the services offered by OneWellness are clinician led, by health professionals. Stephen Kirk leads the physiotherapy department he’s had over 17 years of experience working in the NHS, private and elite sport settings. There are an additional three associate physiotherapists who work alongside him. All of which have been trained and qualified for number of years.

This means when you attend a Pilates class you know you’re working safely and that the exercises you’re undertaking are really going to be of benefit to you. Working under the guidance of highly trained physiotherapists means you’re much more likely to be working the right muscle groups the right way.

Emma Davies led our Pilates class which is held on a Tuesday at 8pm, which is a good Mama friendly class time! Emma’s been a physio since 2006 and has taught Pilates for over eight years. She’s recently had her second baby too, so knows all about the practicalities of getting back into exercise after having children.

Having recently been pregnant and as a new Mum, Emma really put our minds at rest that we were going to be excising safely and to maximum effect all the areas that suffer the stresses and strains of growing another human inside you! Emma explained that it’s working the lower abdominal muscles that actually help your tummy to become flatter, and no amount of sit ups will help achieve that as those exercises focus more on your higher abdominal muscles.

OneWellness Gym space

The class was at a relaxed pace and there were a few newcomers, which meant you felt at ease quickly and Emma was really hands on, coming round to correct positions to make sure you were undergoing the moves in all the right ways!

I really enjoyed the Pilates class, it was great to find a different head space and to exercise at a slower pace – rather than a cardio workout. I found I left energised and that I’d started down the line of engaging my core muscles again, which have been a long time neglected! I’m looking forward to heading back next week!

Classes are £55 for a six week course. OneWellness offer other differently priced packages for Pilates too, for a more personalised service.

Mum to Be and New Mum Packages

OneWellness are offering a Mum-to-be package and a New-Mum package which both include specialist physiotherapy massages and six specialist Yoga or Pilates sessions – which would make perfect new baby or baby shower gifts at £175 for the package. More details can be found on their website www.onewellnessharrogate.co.uk.

Personal Training Packages at an Introductory Rate

There are also a number of Personal Training packages on offer for a bargain introductory price at the moment.

For £135 you can get take part in the OneWellness PT-Fit package which includes all of the following;  a one to one physical assessment with a specialist physiotherapist, a tailored plan to help you support your fitness goals, six PT-Fit sessions with a personal trainer in the OneWellness gym (up to six people in a class), a follow up physiotherapist session to measure progress and free telephone support throughout the package. (More details on their website, prices correct at time of first publishing).

HIIT and Clinical Yoga

Along with the Pilates, PT sessions and additional wellbeing packages, OneWellness also offer tailored classes which are all led by experts in their field. On Mondays and Wednesdays at 6.15pm HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) classes are available and from Thursdays at 1.30pm they offer Clincal Yoga.

Coming soon to OneWellness

OneWellness also have a host of other exciting offerings in the pipeline. From the 24th April they will be starting their own brand of HIIT classes (called OneHIIT) which will target the early-risers running at 6.30am – 7.15am. There will also be some parent and child classes coming in the not too distant future too.

Experts in their field

The organisation prides itself on working with experts in their chosen field and are excited to announce that they will soon be working with a clinical physiologist who has worked with Olympians Alistair and Jonny Brownlee. Dr Matthew Campbell is a senior lecturer at Leeds Beckett University and an expert in exercise nutrition, OneWellness are more than thrilled that they’re going to be able to offer experts with that calibre to all their clients.

Saturday 8th April – Launch Event

OneWellness are holding a FREE event open day on Saturday 8th April from 10am, where they are offering free classes, a chance to chat to experts, opportunities to win prizes and a chance to see the amazing facilities for yourself!

Afternoon Tea at Dulcie Butterfly in Boston Spa

The Small Boy, Grandma and I found the perfect Afternoon Tea spot in Boston Spa last week! Dulcie Butterfly is the chintzy, prettiest, little vintage tea rooms you could possibly imagine!

Dulcie Butterfly in Boston Spa

The cafe is right in the heart of Botson Spa’s high street, which is a lovely little village to go and visit if you haven’t been recently, it’s really grown in lots of ways. Boston Spa is just off the A1 past Wetherby, about twenty minutes away from Harrogate, and it has a great park for the Smalls and lots of gifty type shops to have a mooch around too!

Pink Paradise

We enjoyed a marvellous afternoon tea, which actually covered off both lunch and dinner for us as it was so filling. All the cakes and scones are homemade on site and we enjoyed tasty sandwiches, crisps, freshly made scones with jam and cream, pink coconut macaroons, and whopping wedges of lemon and orange and chocolate cake all served up with a generous pot of tea for £13 each.

Afternoon Tea Heaven

The Small Boy loved his own children’s version, which was essentially all his favourite things on one perfectly sized plate. Sandwiches, crisps, mini marshmallows, individual gingerbread men and a little chocolate bun served up with lashings of pink lemonade.

Shabby Chic Gift Shop

It’s evident that Dulcie, who owns the teashop, loves all things vintage and is the most charming hostess you could hope for in such a pink paradise.  The tearooms recently hosted a ‘Gin-tage’ event which saw a 1940/50’s hair and make-up masterclass, showcased the amazing voices of the Rum and Cola Girls singing, served afternoon tea and delicious gin cocktails. It proved so popular that Dulcie is planning another one soon, so check out her Facebook page for more details.

For locals to Boston Spa Dulcie Butterfly offers a lovely after school treat deal, which is a hot chocolate and a homemade biscuit for just £2. I know if we lived closer we’d be popping by for that pink pick me up on the way home!

We’re already looking forward to going back to the tearooms again, it was a lovely way to spend an hour or so with the Small Boy and Grandma on a Thursday afternoon. Dulcie Butterfly is open every day except Mondays.

Cardamom Black offer FREE delivery for your Saturday Night Takeaway

Last week Mr P and I had a really rare night to ourselves at home, the big girls were out at a sleepover and the Small Boy was in bed by 7pm, so we had the luxury of a whole evening ahead without interuption.

It was a Friday night, at the end of a busy week, so Mr P and I settled on the only date night available to parents without a babysitter which was a movie and a takeaway! All the excitement!

We Mr P 😬 picked on the film, Deep Water Horizon, a disaster movie, which main saving grace was that it starred Mark Wahlberg as the lead character and we both decide that the nations favourite takeaway, Indian, was to be the meal of choice!

Unknown.jpeg
Gratuitous shot of the hero! 😜

Fortunately for us Harrogate’s Cardamom Black Indian Restaurant have just started running their own FREE delivery service! Which meant that neither of us had to leave the comfort of the central heated house in order to actually go and get our takeaway! Awesomeness!

Winning at life when your date night looks like this! 😆

We may have slightly over ordered as we picked from the menu, we were pretty ravenous by 7pm. You need to phone the order through once you’ve chosen from their online menu and then they bring the meal straight to your door.

Even better still you can pay over the phone with your card, so there’s no need to scramble around at home hoping you’ve got some cash lying around!

Huge box full of deliciousness!

Twenty minutes after our order had been placed a really friendly young chap knocked on the door, in a smart shirt and tie and handed us a huge box heaving with enough food for four people. At which point we spared a fleeting thought for the big girls and muttered something about the fact that they would probably have liked this too, before cracking open the bottles of beer!

Delivery is available within a three mile radius of the restaurant and charged at £1 per mile thereafter, minimum orders are for the value of £20 and you can order anything off the menu!

Meal fit for a date night! The portions were really generous!

The food was great, I couldn’t rate it highly enough, it was hot, well presented, there was plenty of it and all tasted amazing! We ordered a Chicken Rogan Josh, Creamy Mix Veg Makhani, two types of Naan, a Chapati, the house Pilau and enough Popadoms to feed the whole street all for around £35.

Harrogate Blogger, Harrogate Mama, Harrogate Mama Blog, Harrogate Blog, Cardamom Blacks, Yorkshire, Blogger, Harrogate, Mama, Blog,IMG_6502.jpg
Would quite like to eat this again immediately!

The Creamy Mix Vegetable Makhani was really tasty, the veg was fresh with a bit of a bite to it and the sauce was rich and creamy. I had the Peshwari Naan, which would have done as a meal on it’s own and which I’m ashamed to say I did eat all of, by myself! Gah! The house Pilau was great and the popadoms were really light and not greasy at all!

IMG_6504.jpg
Not my most glamorous photo! 🙄

All in all it was the perfect Takeaway, made all the better for the fact that it was actually delivered! Amazing! Will we definitely be ordering from Cardamom Black again.

As you can tell from the photo above Mr P was way too impatient to tuck into his meal to take time taking a decent photo 😆 But in truth, that’s pretty much what date night looks like when you’re a Mama! In your sweatshirt, enjoying a delicious meal you didn’t have to cook or go out for, with no kids around, with your other half by your side, silently high fiving each other for getting through the week with the Small people! Pretty heavenly in my book!
